Scott Grant was handing out retro films,
and i got my hands on three rolls of slide film.
This is the cream of the first crop.

wingspan

these days, i don't like to keep my cell phone too close.
i didn't notice until i was leaving for class that i had a message.
it told me to go to the corner of douglas and fort, and take pictures.
luckily i was leaving for school early enough that i wasn't late for class.

Holy Moly - Homelessness Statistics

god came up to our class while we were filming outside.
there's a lot of unnecessary noise, so here's what's important:

how're you doing, camera person?
who's who?
only nobody knows, only god knows

…that was a long time ago
i've never seen this kind of situation before
no.
why?
getting worst.
the homelessness situation used to be bad, now getting worst.
i used to be in view towers. eleven years
the homeless was less than 8,000
now over 10,000
what the heck is going on?

Holy Moly. God's the greatest. your'e welcome
God's the greatest. you know the english language no good,
sometimes...

Private Parkade

there was a hurricane billowing around the island last night.
this morning, thick golden light fogged up the streets. i didn't have class so i walked downtown.
i headed up the first parkade i saw to take advantage of the early morning sun creeping over the cityscape.

as i climbed the staircase, the colourful doorways caught my eye.
i pulled out my fujifilm behemoth, my new polaroid knock-off.
instantly i heard someone on the stairs from a floor beneath me.
i wanted to avoid any awkwardness, so i quickly snapped #2 and continued on.
#5 was very nice, too, and the top level, so i stepped out into the sun.

The security guard followed me out from the stairwell. he looked over 50, was out of breath, and asking me to leave.
he said it was a private parkade, no pictures allowed.

i told him he could see the pictures, they were in my hand, that they weren't dangerous.

he said it didn't matter. private property. there were plenty of public parkades downtown i could take pictures from…
i asked if this was the worst part of his job and he told me the worst part of his job was kicking out junkies

i guess the company is right. if i made money off that shot, which wouldn't even exist without their building, i wouldn't've made the effort to pay them royalties. if i had taken a photograph from their top floor, which i wouldn't've been able to do without their building, i would be stealing the photographic potential of their roof, with no compensation for them.
good thing they've convinced someone to run up 5 flights of stairs to tell a skinny little white girl to knock off that cultural documentary.
